Cin'Dar Academy Arcarnus
Overview
The Cin'Dar Academy Arcanus is the ⚖️Cin'Dar government branch which is responsible for arcane engineering, both civil and military; with divisions across research, development and engineering.
Governed by the ⚖️Council of Eleven, and headquartered in 🏢Ezdin, the academy employs many thousands of engineers.
Activities
The academy is the primary research, development and engineering group of ⚖️Cin'Dar. The nations indomitable cities, aging but powerful navy and extensive network of roads and aqueducts are all products of the academy.
Its activities include:
- Designing, prototyping and developing naval ships for the ⚔️Cin'Dar Legionius Nauticus.
- Constructing and maintaining the national naval fleets within shipyards across the nation and globe.
- Research, design and construction of the weapons, armour and war-machines of the ⚔️Cin'Dar Legionius Aurelius, including the Ferrum Custos ("Iron Guardian") and Colossus Bellator ("Warrior Colossus").
- Research, design and construction of various civic constructs, including the Clockwork Caravans of 🏘️Nicosa, Task Guardians, Shard Sentries, and many others.
- The original design, construction and ongoing maintenance of 💎Liladan's Heart the enormous sordalite gem that powers the 🏢Ezdin Sky Halo - a city-scale shield.
- Construction and maintenance of the many roads and aqueducts that cross northern 🗺️Bordair, including the Tripptar Aqueduct in 🏢Ezdin.
- Construction and maintenance of various civic works including city walls, civic buildings, and ports.
Society
Members
The academy has a highly structured hierarchy and extensive bureaucracy, with several major Divisio (divisions):
- Administrativa
- Manages the bureaucratic and administrative functions of the Academy.
- Caelestis
- Focuses on the study and application of celestial phenomena. Develops advanced astronomical instruments, predicts celestial events, and explores the influence of celestial bodies on arcane magic.
- Defensionis
- Specialises in the design and construction of defensive wards, fortifications, and protective barriers. Ensures the kingdom's key locations are well-defended against various threats.
- Militaris
- Innovates and develops arcane constructs for military use. Designs and deploys advanced golems, automatons, and other war-machines to enhance military strategies and capabilities.
- Maintains close ties with the ⚔️Cin'Dar Legionius Aurelius.
- Innovativae
- The research division, with both theoretical scholars, experimental engineers and field research staff.
- Enchantmentorum
- Enhances the kingdom's infrastructure through powerful enchantments. Works on large-scale projects such as bridges, roads, and buildings to improve durability and functionality.
- Energeticorum
- Pioneers ground-breaking energy systems. Develops innovative energy sources, efficient power grids, and sustainable energy solutions for the kingdom.
- Machinarum
- Specializes in creating durable and reliable machinery. Designs and constructs machines that can withstand extreme conditions and heavy use, ensuring long-term functionality.
- Transportationis
- Focuses on experimental transportation technology. Develops advanced airships, teleportation devices, and other innovative transportation methods to improve travel efficiency.
- Maintains close ties with the ⚔️Cin'Dar Legionius Nauticus (particularly the Nauticus Academy).
- Responsible for the design and fabrication of the Legionius Nauticus ships, including the venerable Sintel Light Cruiser and enormous Triton Cloudmaster troop-ship.
- **Elementorum
- Blends elemental magic with modern engineering. Integrates elemental forces into engineering projects, creating powerful and versatile designs that harness the natural elements.
The academy employs many thousands of citizens in a variety of administrative, research and engineering roles, including:
- The Grand Artificer, who chairs the Council of Eleven and is the nominal leader of the academy. In 3898 PR the grand artificer is 🚹Magnus Emberforge.
- The Council of Eleven, governing body of the academy.
- This enigmatic and influential body is composed of eleven of the finest artificers from across the realm. Together, they govern the intricate web of magical innovation, blending science and sorcery to shape the future of the kingdom.
- Each council member brings their own unique talents and philosophies, forming a delicate balance of power within the Academy. Beneath their polished exteriors lie hidden rivalries, alliances, and agendas, all influencing the ever-shifting dynamics of this governing body. From towering citadels to cutting-edge weaponry, the Council of Eleven remains the beating heart of Cin’Dar’s arcane ingenuity—and perhaps its greatest source of intrigue.
- In 3898 PR the council members are:
- Chief Artificer 🚹Lucius Verus, a master orchestrator and negotiator. Leads Divisio Administrativa.
- Chief Artificer Ailwin Trisven, a reclusive elven prodigy famed for his work in celestial mechanics. Leads Divisio
- Chief Artificer Arthur Winther, a methodical architect of defensive wards and fortifications. Leads Divisio Defensionis
- Chief Artificer Caius Sidonius, whose arcane constructs have redefined military strategies. Leads Divisio Militaris.
- Chief Artificer Dasha Vladislavovna, a fiery innovator whose designs combine ferocity with beauty. Leads Divisio Innovativae.
- Chief Artificer Decius Murrius, a stoic engineer dedicated to large-scale infrastructure enchantments. Leads Divisio Enchantmentorum.
- Chief Artificer Niklas Ihalainen, an eccentric genius celebrated for his ground-breaking energy systems. Leads Divisio Energeticorum.
- Chief Artificer Narmaen Broadbeard, a dwarven master of resilient machinery. Leads Divisio Machinarum.
- Chief Artificer Sasha Grigorievich, whose expertise in experimental transportation technology is unmatched. Leads Divisio Transportationis.
- Chief Artificer Temur Iosava, a visionary adept at blending elemental forces with modern designs. Leads Divisio Elementorum.
Culture
The academy is a driving force for modernisation and urbanisation in Cin'Dar, and focuses on core philosophical tenants:
- Economic Prosperity: Innovation must strengthen the Republic's wealth and stability.
- Glory in Creation: Civic works are monuments to the Republic’s greatness.
- Relentless Innovation: Advancing magical and technological knowledge is a sacred duty.
- Practical Application: All projects must serve tangible military, civic, or economic goals.
- Collective Glory: Achievements are celebrated as triumphs for both science and the Republic.
While advancing their goals, the academy maintains several important relationships:
- Academy Cognitus
- While the Academy Arcarnus is a practical body which focuses on engineering, the Academy Cognitus is a scholarly body that focuses on learning. The many graduates from the Academy Cognitus go on to vocations within the Academy Arcarnus, particularly those with a bent for practical and field engineering.
- The Academy Arcarnus maintains very close ties with the Academy Cognitus, providing key services such as the construction and maintenance of schools, laboratories and larger scale experiments; as well as the sharing of field research.
Religion
The academy is a secular body with deep roots in logic and philosophy. The academy broadly rejects religious tenants and often comes in to conflict with ⚖️House Celestia.
Despite its position as a philosophical and non-religious group, the academy has had a hand in planning and building many of the iconic temples across Cin'Dar, including the 🏫Sanctuary of the Verdant Heart.
Possessions
The academy has a vast network of schools, workshops, laboratories, shipyards and libraries across Cin'Dar including:
- Academy Arcanus (🏢Ezdin), the self-titled academy campus in the capital city.
- Fabrica Navium (🏢Orhaz), a large shipyard in Orhaz.
Construction robots (pain mites) and others - reference the book which has a number of construction constructs.
